The social work degree option on the Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus encourages students to discover themselves while preparing to empower others. Social work offers an opportunity to work with and for people, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, age or gender. Professionals in this field make a difference in the lives of others by navigating relationships; helping to solve personal, family and community challenges; and shaping social and environmental forces that affect daily life. When students study social work at Kansas State Polytechnic, they will experience an intimate class size with industry-connected faculty at the helm. Curriculum includes interprofessional, collaborative training and a final semester field practicum. The degree is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Social work students are given the opportunity to collaboratively work with area physician and nursing students, creating an interprofessional learning environment. Adding to their education, students also are invited to engage in professional continuing education workshops through Salina’s strong social work community.
Social work students are regularly recruited by community organizations to serve as volunteers at events or on various projects as well as to work in paid positions, resulting in a more robust resume. The final semester of the social work degree option is spent in a block field placement being fully immersed in an agency and applying classroom content to real-word applications.
Social work faculty come to the classroom from the field, providing students with practical applications of theory. They also maintain their link with industry, connecting students with further outside learning opportunities.
“My experience at Kansas State Polytechnic has been nothing short of amazing. The small class size allows you to build close relationships with students and professors, and the campus provides a very safe atmosphere. The faculty are really understanding and are willing to work with you in any way they can to make sure you’re successful. They also have worked in the field, so students benefit from a real-world perspective.”
“The degree program helped prepare me for real-practice situations through field education. I enjoyed the opportunity to develop great professional relationships with professors. The entire teaching staff at the Polytechnic Campus accommodates the needs of each student and makes your program experience individual to you. My degree challenges me to think outside the social work box, and I know none of this would have been possible without the support of my professors and the K-State Polytechnic Campus.”
“I enjoyed that I could take some courses online to better fit into my work schedule and have the opportunity to take additional courses that fit my specific interests. The program’s structure allowed me the opportunity to get dual licensure for social work and addictions counseling. My degree from Kansas State Polytechnic has made it possible for me to follow my dreams.”
